The Well by Eugenio Montale

One of my favorite past time is to enjoy the works of poetry. The one above was no exception. The first time it was shared to me by someone dear, I shed tears immediately. With my limited vocabulary , I would not profess to understand the original text in Italian , which I presume to be more poignant and beautiful than the english translation, nevertheless, I fell in love with it. The simplicity in using a humble tool of a pully system to symbolically bring out of the memory someone dear and then to return it reverently (again via the pully system) left me almost speechless. I personally find the way the first person in the poem reminisce someone he remember with such loveliness and tenderness and even the smile was just too sweet. The separation of a goodbye where he puts that lovely memory of his beloved back at the recesses in his mind, is symbolically in accordance to him turning the wheel to allow the pail to go back down below into the darkness below. So much beauty in just a few stanzas.

I hope you all will love this little sweet poem as much as I do. Thank you.
